3. Defining Editing
Editing is the process of analyzing, selecting and cutting ideas in order to make something look better and more effective for the audience. |
4. Explaining Editing
Editing is the use of making and creating of a film, whether it is short or big budget. It brings the film together to create a narrative for viewers to understand. It can be used to speed up the film process giving the director and actors more of a storyboard. Editing uses simple processes to change effects, colours and cropping out sections of a shot. |

Let The Right One In
The editing of the introduction to Let The Right One In is very interesting as it switches between landscapes and close-ups. There are close-ups such as where the bully is tormenting Oskar, or when Oskar is in his bedroom staring out of the window. We also see a lot of landscape shots to set the locations, including the outside of the council estate and the snow-covered park scene. We see a lot of wide shots of these locations snapping back and forth with the close-ups, to give the viewer more interesting footage to watch. The introduction of Let The Right One In uses montage in a very interesting way, which is a collection of shorter clips edited together to show different characters across a similar time scale. It blends together different characters' stories which confuses the audience and makes them intrigued to find out how they are linked. The scene which relates to our film most is near the beginning where there is a small tracking shots which takes place at night as Oskar is leaving a cafe. he is unpleasantly greeted by the bullies at his school. the editing is simple because they only changes were probably re colour touches and editing from clip to clip. This scene links to our film because of the cinematography in tracking. i want to try and introduce this mid shot tracking shot to our film.

Michael
In the film Michael the editing is clear and crisp because all the shots cut from shot to shot. This makes it clear to the viewer of the simplicity of the film, and lets the viewer focus on the cinematography and acting instead of being distracted by a sudden dissolve or unnecessary left to right pull away. It also portrays a lot of the continuity editing - for example, eyeline matching and 180 degree rule which helps keep the realism of the film. a scene in particular is a tracking shot in which Michael is trying to steal a child as a freind for his already kidnapped wolfgang. the shot shows one long tracking shot that goes through a car park. this shot is smooth and only uses shot to shot editing.

Marika Hackman (You Come Down) music video
A subtle edit that is shown in the Marika Hackman's music video is a cut from one scene to the other. The viewer believes that it is one continuous tracking shot following her through out the house, but in-fact there are edits when ever the camera passes a wall so the cameraman has time to set up again. This is effective to the piece of film because it has the capability to do that but unfortunately was not possible because when filming our film we were outside and had nothing to effectively cut to with out anyone noticing.
